A New Way to Use Social Network

Social Network Technology is used for communicating through the internet. For instance, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Blogger, and Instagram are all social networking sites. Users use these sites to tell a story, express their feelings, to share pictures and videos, but these sites can be used in a different way than the initial way. These tools can be used to research, create, and learn. The fact that technology changes frequently becoming better, teachers should keep up with it because the students use these tools making them digital natives in this world. If teachers use these sites that students are used to will engage them and allow them to collaborate about what they learn instead of just using it to flirt with others. So Let's talk about what you can do with these sites in the classroom:

  • Twitter: This site is considered to be a micro-blog and can be used as an exit ticket. You can have the students tweet about what they learn about in the class lecture and discussion. In addition, if they have any questions about the content or if they are confused with anything and need additional help.
  • Google Docs: This tool can be used for collaboration between the students. The students can share ideas and work together to complete an assignment or project. It is easy to use and it is quick to get responses on the tool.
  • Youtube: This site is a great resource for students for inquiry-based learning. Students already use the site to learn or for entertainment, so if teachers incorporate this site the students will more likely to be engaged in the learning.
