The End..

Image
I am glad to be moving on to the next semester, but I loved this class and everything I learned in it. It has been a while since I found a class that has kept my attention and wanting to do more in a long time. I really enjoyed making the portfolio for this class. I used Google Sites one time before. I wasn't really familiar with it back then and hated how my website looked like. Then you provided us with examples and I learned a few things to do for my website. I didn't know that you could have tabs in the top right corner and organize the website as you see fit. I also learned how to change the layouts to the way that I like and add my own pictures. With technology, I have come a long way and can't wait to learn more about different tools.

Bringing back the fire in the Learning.

Big issue with the vas’s amount of new technology being developed is the amount of time to learn how to use it and teach students how to use it. This could take away the time for learning in the classroom. At this point simplicity is the best way to go integrate technology in the classroom. An application that I have learned about this week was Adobe Spark. It is a simple application tool where students will create different types of videos. This tool allows them to be creative in their creation. You can have different assignments using Adobe Spark. For instance, create “All About Me” video to introduce themselves to the class or reflect on their experience on a field trip. Instead of using the typical assignments of writing them on a piece of paper, they could create ones that will engage the learners. Thats how a teacher can put back fire in the learning.

Virtual Reality

Image
Virtual Reality is an interactive experience through simulated environments. It's mostly for visuals and auditory, but in some cases can have other sensory features. Using virtual reality is another way to make your classroom engaging for the students. Virtual reality will be used to go on field trips, but stay in the classroom students will get the experience of traveling around the world. These learners will have the chance to go to a place they never thought of going in their lifetime. These experiences can be turned into lessons that teachers can use. For example, teachers can show significant monuments in Rome in a history class when they are doing their Roman Empire unit. I think it will be great to add this technology tool to the classroom but it will get the learners to want to learn instead of making the learning process difficult. I can think of so many ways I could use this tool to improve a lesson plan. I remember when I was a tutor for 7th and 8th-grade class ...

Benefits of Youtube

Image
This week I learned something new which was adding a caption to a video. I always wondered how captions were added to a video. When I was doing the activity it was a challenge transcribing the video. I had to go back more than once to fix the errors I made or hear the video again to make sure I didn't leave anything out. I understand why the captions are there for an option, so it is a good thing to include it when making videos.       Moving on to the benefits of using youtube in the classroom: Flipped Instructions: Students can learn the content before coming to class. This way the teachers will have more time to apply the concept and have hands-on experience.  Supplemental Information: You can provide the students with extra resources that you can't cover in the classroom. Sometimes the students will have an easier time comprehending the information from these videos.  Self Directed Learning: Let students explore youtube on t...

A New Way to Use Social Network

Image
Social Network Technology is used for communicating through the internet. For instance, Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Blogger, and Instagram are all social networking sites. Users use these sites to tell a story, express their feelings, to share pictures and videos, but these sites can be used in a different way than the initial way. These tools can be used to research, create, and learn. The fact that technology changes frequently becoming better, teachers should keep up with it because the students use these tools making them digital natives in this world. If teachers use these sites that students are used to will engage them and allow them to collaborate about what they learn instead of just using it to flirt with others. So Let's talk about what you can do with these sites in the classroom: Twitter: This site is considered to be a micro-blog and can be used as an exit ticket. You can have the students tweet about what they learn about in the class lecture and discussion. I...

Be a Problem Solver using Computational Thinking

Image
Computational Thinking is used to solve problems. There are four parts to computational thinking: decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithm design. For decomposition, its when you break a big problem into smaller ones. Decomposition: This way it would be easier to manage.  Pattern recognition requires you to analyze and find a sequence that repeats. Patterns make the problem simpler because we can use the same solution whenever we see the same pattern. Abstraction is where you get rid of parts that are unnecessary. The solution that is created has to be able to work with different problems. Lastly, the algorithm design explains how to do something step-by-step.            Personally, I had a hard time with computational thinking part 1 assignment because I wasn't sure what I had to do. I did watch the week 9 video to see the explanation, but I still wasn't confident that I did it rig...

Time to Plan this Lesson!

Image
It is finally time to work on the lesson plan outline this week. I kind of changed my idea on what exactly I wanted to do for the lesson plan. I originally wanted it on the solar system, but because that was a broad topic I chose one of the planets: Mars. Then I wanted my lesson plan to be fun and creative for students. I didn't just want to plan a presentation, basic assignments, and then quizzes. I wanted the children to design something to use their imagination to be creative. In addition, to use digital tools to promote collaboration and student learning. On the other hand, I found all of the ISTE easy to understand. It is not like the core standards where it could be overwhelming reading through them all. Well, I am looking forward to learning more about computational thinking in week 9.
